NCDA Facilitating Career Development (FCD) Instructor Training
Prepare to deliver the NCDA Facilitating Career Development Training and Certification Program through advanced instructor preparation designed for experienced career development and adult-training professionals.
Career Development Expertise
Instructor applicants must demonstrate substantial education and experience in career development and meet one of NCDA’s qualifying education and career-development experience pathways.
Adult Training Experience
All applicants must have a minimum of three years of experience teaching or training adults and qualifying experience teaching career-related counselor education or career development courses at the college/university level, or conducting broad, in-depth career development staff training in a corporate, school, or government setting.
Professional & Technology Readiness
Applicants must also demonstrate eLearning and technology skills, relevant credentials or professional memberships, professional contributions, and a clear commitment to delivering FCD training.
Who Should Apply?
FCD Instructor Training is intended for experienced career development professionals who bring both substantial career development preparation and demonstrated experience teaching or training adults.
Graduate Counseling Pathway
Master’s or doctoral degree in counseling with coursework in career development and vocational assessment, a practicum/internship with a major career emphasis, and either at least three years of career development experience in teaching, training, materials development, or practice, or at least three years delivering career development services.
Graduate Related-Field Pathway
Master’s degree in Human Resource Development, Psychology, Education, or a similar field, plus five years of career development/service experience, recent career development continuing education, and professional presentations and/or published books or training materials.
Bachelor’s Related-Field Pathway
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Development, Psychology, Education, or a similar field, plus five years of career development/service experience, recent career development continuing education, and professional presentations and/or published books or training materials.
Adult Training Experience Is Required
All applicants must also have a minimum of three years of experience teaching or training adults, with qualifying experience teaching career-related counselor education, career development courses, or broad, in-depth career development staff training.
Applicants who do not have one of the education and experience combinations above must demonstrate extensive career development background, training, knowledge, expertise, and experience.
Training Format & Tuition
FCD Instructor Training is a 40-hour self-paced online program designed for experienced professionals who have been approved through the instructor application process.
40-Hour Online Training
Complete structured instructor-development coursework focused on preparing you to deliver the NCDA Facilitating Career Development Training and Certification Program.

Self-Paced Format
Work through the training online at your own pace within the established course-access period while completing required instructor-training activities and assignments.
Application Approval Required
FCD Instructor Training is not open enrollment. Applicants must first demonstrate that they meet NCDA instructor qualifications and receive approval before enrolling.
Applicants should not submit payment until their instructor application has been reviewed and approved.
Application Process
FCD Instructor Training begins with a qualification and application review to ensure applicants meet NCDA instructor requirements before enrollment.
1. Review the Instructor Qualifications
Review the current FCD Instructor qualifications, including education, career development experience, adult-training experience, professional involvement, and technology readiness.
2. Complete the Pre-Application
Submit the brief FCD Instructor Training pre-application with information about your education, career development background, adult-training experience, and interest in becoming an FCD Instructor.
3. Initial Screening
An NCDA FCD Master Trainer reviews the pre-application. If the information provided is sufficient and the prospective applicant appears to meet the qualifications, the formal Instructor Application is provided. If additional information is needed, the Master Trainer will contact the prospective applicant before determining the next step.
4. Formal Application & Enrollment
Applicants invited to proceed complete the formal Instructor Application and provide the required supporting documentation. Approved applicants then receive enrollment and payment instructions for the 40-hour FCD Instructor Training program.
The formal Instructor Application is provided after the pre-application screening. Please do not submit tuition payment until your application has been reviewed and approved.
